The Wait
In this season, God has been teaching me in the most simplest of ways. It has actually been amazingly refreshing. I think sometimes we tend to overcomplicate our relationship with Him that it becomes easy to forget that God can use anything as a lesson.
In this particular instance, He used my baby -Asher. If you don’t know, Asher is my cute, white puppy. As Asher and I reached the end of our hot, summer walk; he was eager to come in a head straight to his water bowl. That is until I stopped him and instructed him to wait. My poor little Morkie Poo had the most confused look on his face. He attempted to approach his bowl again as I picked it up. Yet I instructed him once more to wait. It’s not that I was trying to be a cruel pup mom; but I knew that I had something better for him. I refused to give him yesterday’s old water. I wanted him to enjoy some new, fresh, ice water!! Of course Asher didn’t initially know that. But as he sat obediently and watched what I was doing, he’d soon realize it.
Then it dawned on me.. This is how God wants me to patiently wait on Him! Such a simple yet necessary reminder. The same way that me, being Asher’s mommy who cares about him and wants the best for him -even if he has to wait for a few; is literally the same concept of God’s desire for us. I started to realize that God doesn’t want us settling for OUR GOOD when we could have HIS BEST. Sometimes however, His best requires us to wait, trust and blindly obey Him. As we wait, like Asher, we can watch for how He is moving with expectancy. We can observe how God is already moving in our lives. Traces of His work can be found in the smallest details. Remember, NOTHING is wasted. We may not know exactly what He is doing in our waiting season; but we can trust Him at His word that “All things work together for the good of those who love The Lord and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
What are you waiting on in this current season? Maybe it’s healing, clarity, breakthrough, love, an apology, spiritual growth, financial increase or improved circumstances. The list goes on but whatever it is; let me encourage you. Not with what you want to hear, but with the truth found in God’s word. As children of Yahweh, we possess an inheritance. That is not just something we say to sound religious, but it is legally true in the spirit realm. The blessings listed throughout the New Testament is for both you and I; those of us who are in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 1:11 reads, “Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.”
Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
Philippians 4:19
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
Sis, I know that in times of waiting, these verses seem more applicable to the lives of other’s verses our own life but our Lord gave us these words to cling to -especially in our waiting. If you’re like me, you’ve had moments when you’ve determined, “Okay, I’ve waited long enough.” But to wait on God literally means waiting beyond our own predicted timeline. There’s no question that the enemy will try to distract us with quick blessings, but our All-Knowing God knew that.
This is why He cautions us in Psalm 37:7, “Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.”
It isn’t for us to determine the timeline, the how or the what. It isn’t for us to live in comparison with the evil who APPEAR to be prospering either. And it certainly isn’t for us to take matters into our own hands if God is telling us to “be still and know that He is God.”(Psalm 46:10). Yes, there will be times when He allows us to join Him in what He is doing, but there are other times when we are to “be still in the presence of the Lord.” Either way, it is for our benefit, even when we can’t see it. We can be sure of this because James 1:4 says, “But let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
We must be women who grow deep roots in The Lord, truly trusting that His appointed time is working for us, not against us. He loves us. He longs to give us good gifts. However, the only way that trust grows is knowing the character of the One you are trusting. How can we know Jesus more? By reading His word? How can we believe Him? By remembering His track record in previous seasons. How can we recognize Him moving in our lives? By asking Him to open our spiritual eyes/ears to glimpses of Him. God is so accessible, we need only to seek and we will find. Will we always get the answer that we’re expecting? Nope. But honestly, our relationship with Him should triumph our circumstances anyway. Everything we need is found in Him!
Believe me when I say, I know first hand that this whole waiting thing can feel so discouraging, tiring and never ending. I have cried out to our Heavenly Father numerous times for numerous things, so I know it is no easy task. On the other hand, I can also attest to experiencing the Peace of God that has graced me all the way to the other side of those long, painful waiting season. And because God is no respecter of person; the same way He has graced me through, without a doubt He’ll do it for His other daughters. If I’m being honest, there are still other promises and desires from Him that I am waiting on. They don’t seem to be anywhere in sight but this time, I choose to trust WHO I am waiting on instead of the WHAT.
I invite you to to join me in faith; proclaiming a solid truth from Isaiah 64:4
For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like You, Who works for those who wait for Him!
In Jesus’s name, Amen.
