Endless love

These days, I’ve been heavily into romantic movies. Honestly, it’s something that randomly happened. I recently watched a movie called “Endless Love” on Netflix and found myself smiling from ear to ear. Deep down I craved that type of romance and passion -y’all know movies always over romanticize. I silently wondered where this sudden love for romantic movies came from. You know sometimes us females go through seasons where we need extra, extra love, attention & romance. I assumed that to be the reason for this. -Now if you know me, you know how I feel about my man. That’s husbae! However, I am a hopeless romantic and let’s just be real; he has romantic MOMENTS. Lol

Anyway, as the movie ended I said aloud, Wow, God that was so amazing, so sweet.” While thinking, “Now that’s the type of romance I want. 24 hours, 7 days a week” - (okay that’s a bit unrealistic but I blame the movie.) Then it hit me. I DO have that! As I started thinking about how wild the two character’s love was for one another, I realized God’s wild love for me. I started thanking God for how He personally loves me. He is wild about me. He fights for me. He is sweet. His love is kind, He’s humble and forgiving. His love for me is hopeful and everlasting. And the same is absolutely true for you!

I shortly realized that my new enjoyment for romantic movies wasn’t random. It wasn’t me trying to escape my reality to live in some fantasy world where perfect love exists. It was God’s way of showing me that romance and perfect love was already my reality… through Him! In an instant, the desire for romance turned into a gratitude for God’s everlasting love. My heart became content as I reflected on a passage of scripture I’d once studied in a hard place.

Jeremiah 31:3b reads:

I have loved you with an everlasting love;

Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you and continued My faithfulness to you.“

This verse reminds me that God’s love is without condition. See, God spoke these word over Israel during a time of their suffering which was the consequence of the Israelites breaking their side of the covenant with God. Why couldn’t God just be done with his chosen people when they were so clearly unwilling to keep his commandments? Because His love is an everlasting love. He can discipline us for a while, but He never stops loving us, even when He seems distant. Everything He does is to bring us to repentance, no matter how painful, it’s the work of a good Father whose love is everlasting.

This means nothing that we do or say can separate us from His love. Don’t we all long to be loved like that? Where even in our not so cute ways, we’re still loved and adored just the same? The second half of this verse causes me to imagine God pulling me by the hand even when I stray away, continually. Isn’t that what we love in a mate? Someone who keeps drawing us back, even when we have an attitude? Someone who humbly pulls us close with kind concern for us . Now if you don’t care for the first two, surely this last one will win you over! “And continued my faithfulness to you.” The love of God is the most faithful love we will ever experience. Even in the storms of life or discipline for our sins, His love still remains. That is the faithful love of God. And who doesn’t love a faithful man?! For us, this man is God.

Maybe you’ve never thought of God and romance in the same sentence. Generally people relate romance to sex. Romance with God obviously exempts the world’s viewpoint of that word. It is more about being in awe of God. The reverence of God. The same way we get giddy when our boo does something sweet should be the same excitement we feel about God when we see the many glimpses of His love for us daily.

I won’t spoil the movie but the characters were one another’s first love and throughout the movie, they were determined to get back to one another. This inspired me to pray “Lord, help me to get back to my first love, daily.. You.” It’s a simple yet necessary prayer because admittedly, we sometimes allow our passion for God to grow stale. There are times we focus more on the love of a person over the love of God. But the beautiful fact is that God’s love still remains. He’s still faithful, even we we are not. He never switches up on us, even when we do. Whether we deserve it or not, He gives it anyway. God is the ultimate lover. He expressed this perfect love in the person of Jesus 2,000 years ago and He’s still doing it today.

Sis, whether you’re waiting for love in a person or already enjoying the love of you life; let’s not forget our first love. Let’s reflect on all God has done for us and allow it to stir up a holy awe of Him. Let’s look for His love in the smallest details of our day to day. I often pray, “I want my man’s love for me to be the closest to the love of God.” But I now know that this requires me to live a lifestyle of basking in God’s love. So that’s where you’ll find me nowadays and oh is it a beautiful place to be!

Let’s pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your everlasting love towards us. That no demon in hell nor angel in heaven can separate us from the love of God. Your love for us is strong, perfect and tender. We’re forever grateful. We ask that as we go about our week, You’d help us extend that same love to those around us -even the difficult people. Allow us to experience Your love through those You’ve placed in our lives as well -even in our difficult moments. O God, help us to daily get back to our first love; YOU. Help us to adore You and love You with all that we are. Help us get to a place where we just want You. Let us not overcomplicate our relationship with You. We praise You that because of our faith in Jesus Christ, we don’t have to work for Your love but we live in freedom BECAUSE we are loved!

In Jesus’s loving name, Amen.
